Hello everyone and welcome back to another blog with Morty! I hope everyone had a good week. Mine was very busy actually! This week was celebration week which means SafeHope Home celebrated participants in first phase of programming and second stage! During celebration week we get to go do fun outings and we basically get a break from working on our trauma and refocus on something else.
This week we actually got to go to the Toronto Zoo! I haven’t been there since I was a kid. It felt kinda strange remembering certain things about it and remembering how young I was too. It was a really good day. The girls and I got to see our favourite animals and we were all really impressed with how they take care of the animals and how some were actually born there. Which in my opinion is better because that’s all they’ve known. Their constantly being fed and enough room for their well-being and mental health.
During celebration week, we all get to present something to our peers and staff. You can write a poem, or paint a picture or even make a video collage. Basically, you’re creating something to share with everyone about how you’ve been and what you’re working on. Some participants also share kind words with each other and sometimes it can be individualized about their own personal healing.
Other than that, we also attended the recreation centre where we all attend the gym and library. I just got over a horrible cold, so going to the gym was something that I couldn’t really do like how I wanted it to be. Meaning my body was just exhausted and needed rest. So that’s what I did, but this week I was able to get back to working out and that made me really happy.
I believe I’m starting an employment opportunity in about a week, so fingers crossed. It was supposed to start soon but it got pushed a week. I’m kinda bummed because I was mentally preparing myself and looking forward to starting this coming Monday, but things happen! I don’t really think I have anything else to share on today’s blog, but if you got this far, thank you so much for taking the time to read.
Till next time,
– Morty
